About Us

Brookhaven Child Care is a non-profit, community-based child care program. We are dedicated to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and enriching environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive. Our passionate team is made up of qualified teachers who hold diplomas or degrees in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Our assistant teachers are actively pursuing their ECE certification and bring fresh perspectives and energy to the classroom.

We believe that every child, family, and educator is capable, competent, curious, and full of potential. Our strength-based approach emphasizes collaboration between children, parents, and educators, positioning all of us as co-learners in a shared journey of discovery and development.

Our programming is rooted in play-based learning and guided by a flexible, emergent curriculum that grows from the interests and ideas of the children themselves. Through carefully designed play experiences and thoughtful educator support, children are encouraged to explore:

  • Communication and social skills
  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Self-esteem, self-regulation, and decision-making
  • Curiosity, independence, and initiative

Our Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) and assistants create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where each child is free to be themselves and develop at their own pace. Children are encouraged—but never forced—to participate in a variety of enriching activities including physical play, dramatic arts, creative expression, self-help skills, science exploration, and more.

Open communication among staff, families, and the school community is the cornerstone of our warm and welcoming atmosphere. At Brookhaven Child Care, we are committed to fostering the well-being and holistic development of every child—nurturing happy, confident learners who are ready for the world.

About The Executive Director

Marisa Manduca

Marisa Manduca has been the Executive Director of Brookhaven child care since 1990, bringing over three decades of leadership and dedication to early childhood education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University and an Early Childhood Education from Seneca College.

At Brookhaven, our commitment is unwavering: to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every child. We believe that each child deserves respect, encouragement, and the opportunity to explore their individuality. Our dedicated staff share this vision—supporting families, collaborating with the community, and continuously learning to offer the very best care and education.

Throughout my tenure as Executive Director, I have witnessed countless moments of wonder—children making discoveries, forming friendships, expressing creativity, and building confidence. These moments are the true measure of our success, and they remind us daily of the profound responsibility and joy that comes with this work.

I am grateful to our families for trusting us with their children, to our staff for their expertise and love, and to our community partners for their steadfast support. Looking ahead, we remain devoted to fostering an environment where children flourish, and where the seeds of kindness, curiosity, and lifelong learning are sown each day.

We look forward to getting to know you and working together to give your child the best start in life.
